Arturo:
A pair of red heels on asphalt,
A glimpse of ankle, a nail, a smile,
A batting eyelash through cigarette smoke…
She drops the match, he eats the match, she drops the match, he eats the match and starts to cry
Arturo, Arturo
The clink of ice-cubes in a tumbler,
The taunt of laughter across a crowded room,
It’s all about him, but he is nothing
She drops the match, he eats the match, she drops the match, he eats the match and starts to cry
Arturo, Arturo

Bridges of the Years

The Bridges of the Years:
In years to come these walls will ache with time
And looking back each brick a vintage line
of leaves that fell from books we read and taste like wine
of times we laughed at borrowed jokes and days sublime
But now they sting and stick with paint so new
We cast our eyes and dice for what to do
a choice so rich, a bank so steep, a sky so blue
we hear our thoughts and in our ears our purpose true
I take your hand you take my picture from the album I was keeping for the innocent nostalgia I will own in years to come.
I take your head between my fingers and you change like a cat's cradle and the all the games we know they have been said and all is done.
Up we will rise, forward to the future
I take your hand etc
And from the bridges of the passing years
We see the sights of loves and too of tears
We hang a hook for all the pictures of our minds
A mighty gallery to celebrate our time
I take your hand etc.

Knives Teeth

Knives’ Teeth:
The sky is barely breathing
And the stones are telling jokes beneath my feet
‘sbeen a year since I was dreaming of
the day when you and I would meet
History carved a beat in my bones
Found a rhythm oh so spectacularly alone
Memory found a space in my home
Often the most familiar can be the most unknown
How long will it last
Knives teeth and edge of glass
I’m hanging on so fast, til you come back to me
X 2
Well they say that talk is cheap
And they say that stones will break my bones and words won’t
But I lie here bleeding from your tongue
And the words and the talk you spoke to me
I apply the pressure to the pain
I turn away and think of happy times and something else
But there is nothing else that I know
That can make me happier than you
How long… etc.

Imagined Life

In My Imagined Life:
Black-bracket birdwing against the blue,
A gold horizon, the idea of you.
A summer’s hazy whisper,
A touch so long in coming home.
A moment finally here.
In my imagined life…
No night will fall
In my imagined waking dreams…
No more alone
In my imagined life…
No hearts will break
In my imagination
Only one breath will join your soul to mine
In my imagined life you are my own.
Salt skin and suntans and windswept hair
Bittersweet music grasping gently at the air
A sunset aches in passing
A word so long in being said
A moment finally here
In my imagined life…
No night will fall
In my imagined waking dreams…
No more alone
In my imagined life…
No hearts will break
In my imagination
Only one breath will join your soul to mine
In my imagined life you are my own.
A vision lives within my body,
A truth that only I can know
It lies unconscious sleeping deep within my bones
To be awoken oh by you and you alone.
In my imagined life…
No night will fall
In my imagined waking dreams…
No more alone
In my imagined life…
No hearts will break
In my imagination
Only one breath will join your soul to mine
In my imagined life you are my own.

How We Danced

How We Danced:
Pushing paper and breathing sand, in a week-long funeral marching band,
From the aching depths of the 9 to 5, I’m stepping into life.
New skin for a Friday night, and then you bought new shoes for the skies,
New bones for the restless morning, new lids for your eyes.
Lights scramble and phasers tune for us to fight fire with fire,
We amble so scintillatingly for one, two, three, four or five
Sweet steps ‘til we break into the dawn,
Five sweet minutes to take us light years from home.
Shake hair, rattle keys, lift skirts then you laugh and spin into space,
Sprint backwards, look up to nowhere, then declare ‘we win every race’.
Hearts spiraling, spirits surging, fight fire with ice
We celebrate arms thrust openly and count six, seven, eight, nine sweet steps ‘til we break into the dawn,
Ten sweet minutes to take us light years from home.
Look at me now, never felt so alive
And how we danced.
